Creativity in the design process is often characterised by the occurrence of a significant event—the so-called ‘creative leap’. Sometimes such an event occurs as a sudden insight which the designer immediately recognises as significant, but often it is only in retrospect that the designer (or an observer of the design process) is able to identify a point during the design process at which the key concept began to emerge.

디자인 과정에서 창조란, 소위 '창조적 도약'이라 부르는 중요한 사건의 발생으로 인해 종종 특징지어진다. 이러한 사건은 때때로 디자이너가 그 중요성을 단번에 간파하는 그런 갑작스런 통찰력으로 일어나기도 하지만, 또한 디자이너(또는 디자인 과정을 지켜보는 관찰자)가 디자인 과정 중에서 핵심개념이 드러나기 시작하는 그 포인트를 식별해낼 수 있는 그런 회고 중에서만 나타나기도 한다.
